Our story begins in the little hamlet of Valle
Majolo, now called Valle Ceppi, which means "stumps". The name was
changed after all the trees were cut down and all that remained were the stumps
that could not be cut with a saw.
In Valle Ceppi…
… it was long ago in 1954 when Grandpa Giulio, who until then had worked in a
fabric company in Chieri, decided to work for himself. And so Grandpa Giulio
decided to build these premises as a textile factory so that he could continue,
independently but for third parties, to use his long-acquired skills. When the
construction work was finished in 1955 the premises were ready for use as a
weaving mill. Inside there were as many as 9 looms: two of them were shuttle
looms, 3 were automatic and 4 were rapier looms. Of course, at that time the
looms were made of wood and iron, they certainly weren't made of modern metals
like today's looms. In 1957 Grandma Maria came to work there (two years later
she married Grandpa Giulio and in 1960 their only son, Flavio, was born).
Time passed and only the 4 automatic looms
remained, they got through the work faster but it was still necessary to keep a
careful eye on the them because the thread would often break and had to be
knotted together so that the knot could not be seen on the finished fabric. The
factory continued working until 1985, when it was converted to a carpenter's
shop and so it remained until 2001. When they were free again, the premises
became a store for agricultural tools and machinery, because the main occupation
of Ornella, Grandpa Giulio and Grandma Maria's daughter-in-law, was (and still
is) growing fruit and vegetables and selling them in the local market.
Time passed, Nadia and Mattia, Ornella and
Flavio's children were growing up and helped their mother in the time they had
to spare after their schoolwork. And so all together they decided to make the
most of their own produce by setting up an "agriturismo" where they
could prepare and serve lunch or dinner to discerning clients looking for the
tastes of times past and rural life. The 6th of October 2005 was inauguration
day for the agriturismo but it was also a way of celebrating the 50 years of
this building's life.
On the 28th of June 2008, Nadia, with
everybody's proud got the technic diploma of Arte Bianca, with the best
results... 100!!! Mattia instead, not grown up enough to get the diploma,
interests himself into rural works and traditional tastes... maybe one day
he'll be the enology expert...!!!
